يُزعم أن كريستوفر نيبلز، مشرف عمليات تكنولوجيا المعلومات في مكتب كاتب مقاطعة سوفولك في نيويورك، استغل منصبه لوضع معدات التعدين المشفرة في أماكن مختلفة في مركز ريفرهيد في مقاطعة نيويورك التي كان يعمل بها.
